In October, during our quarterly briefing, we shared the latest updates on how Europe is performing as a study destination - and one visual really stood out to me (see below). It shows how student flows have shifted between 2019 and 2023.

Europe hosted 320,000 more international students over that time. But it is not just about growth; it is about where that growth is happening.
Germany added over 100,000 students, mainly from India and China
The Netherlands grew by another 38,000 just last year
And the shifts across source markets tell their own story:
Vietnam: moving from Italy & France to Poland & the Netherlands
Bangladesh: exploring new, non-traditional hubs
China: overall decline, but +1,700 in Switzerland
Pakistan: strong growth, especially in Germany & Italy
Nigeria: expanding beyond France into Poland
One thing is clear: global student mobility patterns are evolving rapidly.
To ensure the sustainability of operations in this dynamic environment, the most successful education providers rely on real-time market data to track shifting demand and anticipate emerging trends.
At BONARD Education, we continue to monitor these developments to help our partners make informed, data-driven student recruitment decisions.
