This decline in junior week volumes follows two previous quarters in which junior numbers had increased compared with the respective periods a year earlier.
Adults accounted for 86 per cent of student weeks in the 2026 Q2 period, a slightly higher ratio than in the same period of the previous year. Adults typically dominate in Q1 and Q2, while Q3 is the peak summer season for junior students.
In its statement on the latest findings, English UK said, “Taken together, the findings suggest that current pressures are affecting demand volumes without materially altering underlying market patterns. However, the peak junior summer season is not yet reflected in the data and will provide a clearer indication of market performance later in the year.”
Source markets: Saudi Arabia was the top source market overall, followed by Türkiye. The top five was completed by Brazil, Japan and Italy.
The top 10 source markets generated 71.4 per cent of all student weeks, which English UK said was a virtually unchanged ratio from the first quarter of the year.
In the junior segment, the top five source markets were Italy, Spain, Mexico, South Korea and Brazil.
In terms of recruitment channels, 77 per cent of student weeks were attributable to agents, which was an identical ratio to the same period of the previous year and slightly higher than in 2026 Q1. The report shows that 78 per cent of students were individuals, which was a similar ratio to the previous year.
