Brazilia: Increase for Brazilian agency market in 2024

Most Brazilian agencies had an increase in business and expect growth in 2025, according to the latest annual research by agency association BELTA, which also shows that Canada remained the most popular destination and an increased business share for junior camps.
US: Trump administration bars Harvard from enrolling international students

In an escalation of an ongoing dispute between the US administration and Harvard University, the Department of Homeland Security moved on 22 May 2025 to suspend the university’s ability to enrol foreign students. The university has been given 72 hours to comply with a sweeping records request from DHS in order to regain its certification for next year. Students are advised in the meantime to transfer to another university in order not to lose their legal status in the United States.
New Zealand: New Zealand enters peak visa processing window

International students planning to begin studies in New Zealand in July or August this year are advised to apply for a student visa at least three months in advance. Foreign enrolment in the country continues to grow steadily as New Zealand moves into the latter stages of recovery from the pandemic-era decline in international student numbers.
Netherlands: Fewer international students starting bachelor degrees in NL

The number of new international students starting a university bachelor’s degree in the Netherlands fell by 5.2% this academic year. The number of foreign students enrolling in a degree course at an hbo college fell even further, by 6.7%.
UK: Decrease in international students for UK independent schools in 2025

UK boarding schools experienced a slight decrease in international students in the first annual census by the Independent Schools’ Council (ISC) since VAT on fees was confirmed by the government. It shows that there were 25,526 international students with parents living overseas enrolled at the time of the census, a decrease of 2.6 per cent compared with 26,195 in the January 2024 cenzus.
Australia: New international body forms to tackle gaps in student recruitment oversight

A new global organisation has been launched to address growing concerns over compliance and ethical standards in international student recruitment. The Global Education Recruitment Standards Authority (GERSA), a not-for-profit body, began operations this week following an initial launch in the UK.
